A Humble State of Mind

an italian sonnet

* read: 2 minutes *

I want to chant Lord Krishna’s holy name

For this I need need a humble state of mind

But where on earth can someone ever find

A mind that’s made the jump from wild to tame?

I know I’ve only got myself to blame

I should have left my cares and fears behind

I should have cut away the ties that bind

I should have run away from Maya’s game

It’s true I’m lower than a piece of straw

I should be be patient as the standing tree

And bow before whoever comes my way

And when I’m pure enough to stand in awe

Before the One who wants to set me free

I’ll chant Lord Krishna’s name all night and day
